Owning a house is a substantial investment and part of keeping that investment from devaluation is regular property maintenance.
Even if you're renting, keeping the windows clean should be part of a regular property maintenance routine.
THE VALUE OF REGULAR WINDOW CLEANING
The frequency needed for cleaning windows can vary depending on where you live, which you can read more about in this article.
Depending on the size of your home, be it a single or double storey property, the style, sizes and amount of windows will determine the cost of professional window cleaning.
But heh! If you enjoy cleaning windows you can save money doing them yourself.
But seriously, I come across many homes that are having the windows cleaned for the first time in many years.
Often the windows will have permanent water damage, usually behind the screens where dirt and moisture have sat long enough to cause hard water stains.
I also see permanent water staining that generally comes from the top of the windows.
This is caused by contaminants from the window frames, usually aluminium.
The rain hits the frame and over time the metal can leach and a permanent stain is created, much like on shower screen glass.
Occasionally these water marks and stains will clean off, but often the only way to restore the glass is by an acid wash.
PRESERVING YOUR FLY SCREENS
Fly screens are another window item that can degrade and lose that new look when they're not cleaned regularly.
Sometimes I'll wash fly screens and they come up black and looking like new.
Other times, they will dry with a brownish stain.
The longer screens are left to the elements, the less chance of them being brought back to that new look.
Also, certain fabrics and materials that screens are made from can deteriorate and start tearing and basically falling apart.
So regular cleaning and maintenance can keep on top of the quality of your screens and keep them looking better for longer.
MAINTAINING THE VALUE OF YOUR PROPERTY
For most suburban homes, cleaning your windows twice a year is generally adequate.
In the long run, your window glass will remain clear and free from hard water stains.
Because frames are also cleaned, cobwebs kept at bay and screens maintained, your home will retain that street appeal as well as market value.
So is it worth hiring a professional window cleaner a couple of time a year?
If you have a home that you wish to keep looking like new throughout the years, then definitely.
KEEPING YOUR LANDLORD HAPPY
You may be in a rental property and don't see the value in having the windows cleaned on a regular basis.
Depending on the condition of the windows when you moved in, it could be a prudent move to keep them looking their best.
Not only does it create a fabulous first impression when your rental inspection time arrives, it can be a less time consuming job when the time comes to vacate the property.
One less cleaning item that stands between you and your bond deposit!
If the idea of cleaning your own windows on a regular basis sends shivers down your spine, then get in touch and I'll be happy to do the hard work for you!
