Shower Screen Cleaning
Prevention is always better than cure
As well as windows, mirrors and pool fencing, my services also include the cleaning of shower screens.
Shower screens get dirty for two main reasons: soap scum and mineral deposits. Perth's water can be quite high in calcium carbonate. And soap scum is made from caustic soda and fat. Glass is susceptible to etching by caustic soda more than any other acid.
Rather than leaving it too late, it's best to keep on top of the cleaning of your shower screen.
Just keep a squeegee hanging off the shower caddy and simply give a quick wipe over at the end of each shower or three.
Also using shower gels instead of soap really helps too.
But if it is too late, or you can't face doing it yourself, please give me a call and I'd be happy to get your shower screen as clear as it can be.
Methods for cleaning shower screens
Unfortunately, if you've left it too long between cleans, the case may be your shower screen glass has etching or as it's sometimes called "glass cancer".
The only thing for this is too acid wash the glass. There is only really one acid strong enough for this and that's hydroflouric acid. This product is not readily available to the general public. You can buy hydrochloric and sulphuric acids, but these will damage the metal of the shower recess.

If the shower screen glass hasn't been neglected for too long, chances are it will clean up well and there won't be any permanent etching of the glass.
As these photos show, this particular shower screen came up fantastic, considering how thick the soap scum was.
All that was required was a mild detergent, a super fine steelo wool and a lot of elbow grease.
What if the shower screen is permanently etched?
